Thickening

Thickening – Scrubbers and Plate Settlers

Thickeners are one type of sedimentation equipment used to remove solids from liquids. Thickeners work by binding the solids together and then allowing them to settle out of the liquid. The solid-liquid mixture is fed into the thickener, and a flocculant is added to help bind the solids together. The mixture is then allowed to settle, and the clarified liquid is removed from the top. Thickeners are often used in wastewater treatment plants to remove solids from sewage.

Inclined plate settlers are another type of sedimentation equipment. Inclined plate settlers work by gravity separation. The solid-liquid mixture is fed into the top of the settler, and as it flows down the plates, the solids settle out and are collected at the bottom. The clarified liquid is then removed from the top. Inclined plate settlers are often used in water treatment plants to remove solids from water.

Metso-Outotec uses their own unique process, called the lamella principle, which involves the use of several parallel inclined planes to maximize the use of the available space. This leads to long term economic savings and lower environmental impacts.
